Black Forest Cherry Pie is a decadent dessert inspired by the classic cake, featuring a flaky crust filled with rich chocolate and sweet cherry filling, topped with whipped cream.
Ingredients
- 1 double pie crust (store-bought or homemade)
- 3 cups sweet cherries, pitted (fresh or canned, drained)
- 3/4 cup granulated sugar
- 2 tbsp cornstarch
- 1 tbsp lemon juice
- 1/2 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips
- 1 tbsp unsalted butter
- 1 cup heavy whipping cream
- 2 tbsp powdered sugar
- 1/2 tsp vanilla extract
- Chocolate shavings (optional)
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 190°C (375°F).
- Place one pie crust into a 9-inch pie dish.
- In a saucepan, combine cherries, sugar, cornstarch, and lemon juice.
- Cook over medium heat until thickened, then stir in chocolate chips and butter until melted.
- Pour cherry chocolate filling into prepared crust.
- Top with second crust or lattice design and seal edges.
- Bake for 40–45 minutes until crust is golden brown.
- Cool completely before slicing.
- Whip heavy cream with powdered sugar and vanilla until stiff peaks form.
- Top pie slices with whipped cream and chocolate shavings before serving.
