A rich and indulgent chocolate cherry pie featuring a flaky crust filled with sweet-tart cherries and deep chocolate flavor, perfect for holidays or special occasions.
Ingredients
- 1 9-inch pie crust (homemade or store-bought)
- 4 cups fresh or frozen cherries, pitted
- 3/4 cup granulated sugar
- 1/4 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
- 3 tablespoons cornstarch
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1 tablespoon lemon juice
- 1/2 cup dark chocolate chips
- 1 tablespoon butter, cut into small pieces
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C).
- Fit the pie crust into a 9-inch pie dish and crimp the edges. Set aside.
- In a large bowl, combine cherries, sugar, cocoa powder, cornstarch, and salt. Mix until evenly coated.
- Stir in vanilla extract and lemon juice.
- Pour the cherry mixture into the prepared pie crust.
- Sprinkle chocolate chips evenly over the filling and dot with butter pieces.
- Cover with a top crust or lattice if desired, sealing the edges.
- Bake for 45–50 minutes, or until the filling is bubbly and the crust is golden brown.
- Cool completely before slicing to allow the filling to set.
Notes
- If using frozen cherries, do not thaw them before mixing.
- Serve with vanilla ice cream or whipped cream for best flavor.
- Cover crust edges with foil if they brown too quickly.
