Cioccolata Calda is a rich and luxurious Italian-style hot chocolate made with real dark chocolate and milk, thickened to a silky, pudding-like consistency for an indulgent winter treat.


Ingredients

  • 2 cups whole milk
  • 4 oz high-quality dark chocolate (70% cocoa), finely chopped
  • 2 tablespoons unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 2 tablespoons granulated sugar
  • 1 tablespoon cornstarch
  • 1/4 teaspoon vanilla extract (optional)
  • Pinch of salt
  • Whipped cream for topping (optional)


Instructions

  1. In a small bowl, whisk together cocoa powder, sugar, and cornstarch.
  2. In a saucepan over medium heat, warm the milk until hot but not boiling.
  3. Gradually whisk the dry mixture into the warm milk, stirring constantly to prevent lumps.
  4. Add the chopped dark chocolate and stir until completely melted and smooth.
  5. Continue cooking, stirring frequently, until the mixture thickens to a rich, creamy consistency (about 5–8 minutes).
  6. Remove from heat and stir in vanilla extract and a pinch of salt.
  7. Pour into cups and top with whipped cream if desired. Serve immediately.
