Description
Cioccolata Calda is a rich and luxurious Italian-style hot chocolate made with real dark chocolate and milk, thickened to a silky, pudding-like consistency for an indulgent winter treat.
Ingredients
- 2 cups whole milk
- 4 oz high-quality dark chocolate (70% cocoa), finely chopped
- 2 tablespoons unsweetened cocoa powder
- 2 tablespoons granulated sugar
- 1 tablespoon cornstarch
- 1/4 teaspoon vanilla extract (optional)
- Pinch of salt
- Whipped cream for topping (optional)
Instructions
- In a small bowl, whisk together cocoa powder, sugar, and cornstarch.
- In a saucepan over medium heat, warm the milk until hot but not boiling.
- Gradually whisk the dry mixture into the warm milk, stirring constantly to prevent lumps.
- Add the chopped dark chocolate and stir until completely melted and smooth.
- Continue cooking, stirring frequently, until the mixture thickens to a rich, creamy consistency (about 5–8 minutes).
- Remove from heat and stir in vanilla extract and a pinch of salt.
- Pour into cups and top with whipped cream if desired. Serve immediately.
Notes
- Use high-quality chocolate for the best flavor and texture.
- Adjust sugar depending on the sweetness of the chocolate used.
- If the drink becomes too thick, whisk in a splash of warm milk to thin it.
- For extra flavor, add a pinch of cinnamon or chili powder.
