Description
Rich and comforting cream cheese bread pudding made with soft cubes of bread soaked in a sweet vanilla custard and layered with creamy pockets of cheesecake goodness.
Ingredients
- 6 cups day-old brioche or French bread, cubed
- 8 ounces cream cheese, softened and cubed
- 4 large eggs
- 2 cups whole milk
- 1/2 cup heavy cream
- 3/4 cup granulated sugar
- 1 tablespoon vanilla extract
- 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 2 tablespoons unsalted butter, melted
- Optional Topping:
- 1/4 cup brown sugar
- 2 tablespoons powdered sugar for dusting
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 9×9-inch baking dish with butter.
- Spread half of the bread cubes in the prepared dish and scatter half of the cream cheese cubes over the bread.
- Top with remaining bread cubes and cream cheese pieces.
- In a large bowl, whisk together eggs, milk, heavy cream, sugar, vanilla extract, cinnamon, salt, and melted butter until well combined.
- Pour the custard mixture evenly over the bread, pressing gently so the bread absorbs the liquid. Let sit for 15 minutes.
- Sprinkle brown sugar on top if using.
- Bake for 40–45 minutes, or until the center is set and the top is golden brown.
- Cool slightly before serving. Dust with powdered sugar if desired.
Notes
- Use slightly stale bread for best texture and absorption.
- Add raisins or chocolate chips for variation.
- Serve warm with caramel sauce or fresh berries.
- Store leftovers covered in the refrigerator for up to 3 days.
