Description
Soft, fluffy cinnamon rolls filled with buttery cinnamon sugar and topped with a rich, sweet cream cheese glaze, perfect for breakfast or dessert.
Ingredients
- 3 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 packet (2 1/4 tsp) active dry yeast
- 1/4 cup granulated sugar
- 1/2 tsp salt
- 1/2 cup warm milk
- 1/4 cup unsalted butter, melted
- 1 large egg
- 1/2 cup brown sugar
- 2 tbsp ground cinnamon
- 1/4 cup unsalted butter, softened (for filling)
- 4 oz cream cheese, softened
- 1 1/2 cups powdered sugar
- 2 tbsp milk or cream
- 1/2 tsp vanilla extract
Instructions
- In a bowl, combine warm milk, yeast, and 1 tablespoon sugar. Let sit for 5–10 minutes until foamy.
- Add remaining sugar, melted butter, egg, salt, and flour. Mix and knead until a soft dough forms.
- Cover and let dough rise in a warm place for about 1 hour, or until doubled in size.
- Roll dough into a rectangle. Spread softened butter over the surface.
- Mix brown sugar and cinnamon, then sprinkle evenly over buttered dough.
- Roll dough tightly and slice into 12 rolls.
- Place rolls in a greased baking dish, cover, and let rise for 30 minutes.
- Bake at 350°F (175°C) for 22–25 minutes until lightly golden.
- Beat cream cheese, powdered sugar, milk, and vanilla until smooth. Spread over warm rolls before serving.
Notes
- Do not overheat milk or it may kill the yeast.
- Rolls can be prepared the night before and baked in the morning.
- Best served warm.
