Ingredients
- 1 package refrigerated pizza dough (or homemade pizza dough)
- 1/2 pound ground beef (hamburger)
- 1/2 pound Italian sausage (crumbled)
- 1/2 cup sliced pepperoni
- 1 medium onion (chopped)
- 2 cloves garlic (minced)
- 1 can (14.5 oz) crushed tomatoes
- 1/2 teaspoon dried oregano
- 1/2 teaspoon dried basil
- 1/2 teaspoon red pepper flakes (optional)
- 1 1/2 cups shredded mozzarella cheese
- 1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese
- 1 tablespoon olive oil
- Salt and pepper (to taste)
- 1 tablespoon fresh parsley (for garnish)
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C). Grease a 9-inch round or square baking dish with olive oil or cooking spray.
- In a large skillet, heat the olive oil over medium heat. Add the ground beef and sausage, cooking until browned and crumbled, about 6-8 minutes. Drain any excess fat.
- Add the chopped onion and minced garlic to the meat mixture. Sauté for another 3-4 minutes until the onion is softened and fragrant.
- Stir in the crushed tomatoes, oregano, basil, and red pepper flakes (if using). Season with salt and pepper to taste. Simmer for 5-7 minutes, allowing the sauce to thicken slightly.
- Roll out the pizza dough on a floured surface to fit your baking dish. Press it into the bottom and up the sides of the dish, ensuring the dough is evenly spread.
- Layer the meat sauce mixture over the pizza dough, spreading it evenly. Sprinkle the sliced pepperoni over the meat sauce.
- Top with the shredded mozzarella and grated Parmesan cheese.
- Fold any excess dough over the filling to create a crust around the edges.
- Bake the pie in the preheated oven for 25-30 minutes, or until the crust is golden brown and the cheese is melted and bubbly.
- Remove the pie from the oven and let it rest for 5-10 minutes before slicing and serving. Garnish with fresh parsley.
