Ingredients

  • 1 package refrigerated pizza dough (or homemade pizza dough)
  • 1/2 pound ground beef (hamburger)
  • 1/2 pound Italian sausage (crumbled)
  • 1/2 cup sliced pepperoni
  • 1 medium onion (chopped)
  • 2 cloves garlic (minced)
  • 1 can (14.5 oz) crushed tomatoes
  • 1/2 teaspoon dried oregano
  • 1/2 teaspoon dried basil
  • 1/2 teaspoon red pepper flakes (optional)
  • 1 1/2 cups shredded mozzarella cheese
  • 1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • Salt and pepper (to taste)
  • 1 tablespoon fresh parsley (for garnish)


Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C). Grease a 9-inch round or square baking dish with olive oil or cooking spray.
  2. In a large skillet, heat the olive oil over medium heat. Add the ground beef and sausage, cooking until browned and crumbled, about 6-8 minutes. Drain any excess fat.
  3. Add the chopped onion and minced garlic to the meat mixture. Sauté for another 3-4 minutes until the onion is softened and fragrant.
  4. Stir in the crushed tomatoes, oregano, basil, and red pepper flakes (if using). Season with salt and pepper to taste. Simmer for 5-7 minutes, allowing the sauce to thicken slightly.
  5. Roll out the pizza dough on a floured surface to fit your baking dish. Press it into the bottom and up the sides of the dish, ensuring the dough is evenly spread.
  6. Layer the meat sauce mixture over the pizza dough, spreading it evenly. Sprinkle the sliced pepperoni over the meat sauce.
  7. Top with the shredded mozzarella and grated Parmesan cheese.
  8. Fold any excess dough over the filling to create a crust around the edges.
  9. Bake the pie in the preheated oven for 25-30 minutes, or until the crust is golden brown and the cheese is melted and bubbly.
  10. Remove the pie from the oven and let it rest for 5-10 minutes before slicing and serving. Garnish with fresh parsley.
