Description

A hearty deep-dish pizza pie loaded with seasoned ground beef, Italian sausage, spicy pepperoni, bell peppers, rich tomato sauce, and plenty of melted cheese, all baked in a thick, buttery crust.

Ingredients

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup warm water
  • 1/4 cup olive oil
  • 1 tsp sugar
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1 tsp instant yeast
  • 250 g ground beef
  • 250 g Italian sausage (casings removed)
  • 100 g pepperoni slices
  • 1 cup tomato pizza sauce
  • 1 1/2 cups shredded mozzarella cheese
  • 1/2 cup shredded cheddar cheese
  • 1 green bell pepper, sliced
  • 1 small onion, sliced
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 tsp dried oregano
  • 1 tsp dried basil
  • 1/2 tsp black pepper
  • 1/2 tsp chili flakes (optional)

Instructions

  1. In a bowl, mix warm water, sugar, and yeast. Let sit for 5 minutes until foamy.
  2. Add flour, salt, and olive oil. Knead into a smooth dough, cover, and let rise for 1 hour.
  3. Preheat oven to 190°C (375°F).
  4. In a skillet, cook ground beef and sausage until browned. Add garlic, onion, and bell pepper and sauté until softened.
  5. Season the meat mixture with oregano, basil, black pepper, and chili flakes. Set aside.
  6. Grease a deep-dish pan and press the dough evenly into the bottom and up the sides.
  7. Layer half of the mozzarella cheese on the crust, followed by the meat mixture, pepperoni slices, and tomato sauce.
  8. Top with remaining mozzarella and cheddar cheese.
  9. Bake for 35–40 minutes until the crust is golden and cheese is bubbly.
  10. Let rest for 10 minutes before slicing and serving.

Notes

  • Letting the pie rest helps it hold its shape when sliced.
  • You can substitute mushrooms for part of the meat if desired.
  • Use a springform pan for easier removal.
