Description

Dumpling Lasagna is a comforting fusion dish that layers tender dumplings with rich meat sauce, creamy ricotta mixture, and melted mozzarella cheese for a hearty baked dinner twist on classic lasagna.

Ingredients

  • 1 (20 oz) package frozen cheese dumplings (thawed)
  • 1 lb ground beef
  • 1 small onion, finely chopped
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 2 cups marinara sauce
  • 1 cup ricotta cheese
  • 1 large egg
  • 1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • 2 cups shredded mozzarella cheese
  • 1 teaspoon Italian seasoning
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 2 tablespoons chopped fresh parsley (optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C). Grease a 9×13-inch baking dish.
  2. In a large skillet over medium heat, cook ground beef and chopped onion until browned. Drain excess fat.
  3. Add minced garlic and cook for 1 minute until fragrant.
  4. Stir in marinara sauce, Italian seasoning, salt, and pepper. Simmer for 5 minutes.
  5. In a bowl, mix ricotta cheese, egg, and Parmesan cheese until well combined.
  6. Spread a thin layer of meat sauce on the bottom of the baking dish.
  7. Add a layer of dumplings evenly over the sauce.
  8. Spread some ricotta mixture over the dumplings, followed by meat sauce and a sprinkle of mozzarella.
  9. Repeat layers until ingredients are used, finishing with mozzarella on top.
  10. Cover with foil and bake for 25 minutes. Remove foil and bake an additional 10–15 minutes until cheese is melted and bubbly.
  11. Let rest for 10 minutes before slicing. Garnish with parsley if desired.

Notes

  • You can substitute ground turkey or chicken for a lighter option.
  • Use vegetable dumplings and omit meat for a vegetarian version.
  • Allowing the dish to rest before cutting helps it set properly.
  • Store leftovers refrigerated for up to 3 days.
