Description

French Onion Soup Burgers are juicy beef burgers topped with caramelized onions, melted cheese, and rich savory flavors inspired by classic French onion soup.


Ingredients

  • 500 g ground beef
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1/2 tsp black pepper
  • 1 tsp garlic powder
  • 1 tsp Worcestershire sauce
  • 2 tbsp olive oil
  • 3 large onions, thinly sliced
  • 1 tsp sugar
  • 120 ml beef broth
  • 120 g sliced Gruyère or Swiss cheese
  • 4 burger buns
  • Butter for toasting buns (optional)


Instructions

  1. Heat olive oil in a skillet over medium heat.
  2. Add sliced onions and sugar, cooking slowly for 20–25 minutes until deeply caramelized.
  3. Deglaze the pan with beef broth and simmer for 3–4 minutes until slightly reduced. Set aside.
  4. In a bowl, mix ground beef with salt, pepper, garlic powder, and Worcestershire sauce.
  5. Form the mixture into 4 equal burger patties.
  6. Cook burgers on a grill or skillet over medium-high heat for 4–5 minutes per side until desired doneness.
  7. Top each burger with caramelized onions and cheese.
  8. Cover and cook for 1–2 minutes until cheese melts.
  9. Toast burger buns with butter if desired.
  10. Assemble burgers and serve hot.
