Description

Ground Beef Gorditas are thick corn pockets stuffed with seasoned ground beef and classic toppings, creating a hearty and satisfying Mexican-inspired meal.

Ingredients

  • 2 cups masa harina
  • 1 1/2 cups warm water
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 tablespoon vegetable oil (for dough)
  • 1 lb ground beef
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1 small onion, diced
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 teaspoon ground cumin
  • 1 teaspoon chili powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon paprika
  • Salt and black pepper to taste
  • 1 cup shredded lettuce
  • 1 cup shredded cheddar or Mexican-blend cheese
  • 1/2 cup diced tomatoes
  • 1/2 cup sour cream
  • Oil for frying

Instructions

  1. In a bowl, mix masa harina, salt, vegetable oil, and warm water until a soft dough forms.
  2. Divide dough into golf-ball-sized portions and flatten into thick discs.
  3. Heat a skillet over medium heat and cook gorditas for 2–3 minutes per side until lightly browned.
  4. Remove and set aside to cool slightly, then carefully slice open to form a pocket.
  5. In another skillet, heat olive oil over medium heat.
  6. Add onion and cook until softened, then add garlic and ground beef.
  7. Cook beef until browned, breaking it apart.
  8. Season with cumin, chili powder, paprika, salt, and pepper; stir well.
  9. Heat oil in a pan and lightly fry gorditas until golden and crisp.
  10. Fill each gordita with ground beef, lettuce, cheese, tomatoes, and sour cream.
  11. Serve warm.

Notes

  • You can bake or air-fry gorditas instead of deep frying.
  • Swap ground beef for ground chicken or turkey if desired.
