Description
Italian Tiramisu is a classic, decadent dessert made with layers of coffee-soaked ladyfingers, mascarpone cream, and dusted with cocoa powder. It’s rich, creamy, and perfect for any occasion.
Ingredients
- 1 1/2 cups strong brewed coffee (cooled)
- 1/4 cup coffee liqueur (optional, such as Kahlúa)
- 6 large egg yolks
- 3/4 cup granulated sugar
- 1 pound mascarpone cheese (room temperature)
- 1 cup heavy cream
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1 package (7 oz) ladyfingers
- Unsweetened cocoa powder (for dusting)
- Shaved chocolate or chocolate curls (optional, for garnish)
Instructions
- In a shallow dish, combine the brewed coffee and coffee liqueur (if using). Set aside.
- In a large bowl, whisk together the egg yolks and granulated sugar until pale and smooth. Set over a double boiler or in a heatproof bowl over simmering water and whisk constantly for 3-4 minutes until slightly thickened. Remove from heat and let it cool.
- In another large bowl, whisk the mascarpone cheese until smooth and creamy.
- In a separate bowl, beat the heavy cream and vanilla extract until stiff peaks form.
- Gently fold the mascarpone mixture into the cooled egg yolk mixture. Then, fold in the whipped cream until fully incorporated.
- Quickly dip each ladyfinger into the coffee mixture (do not soak them) and layer them in the bottom of a 9×13-inch dish or a similar sized serving dish.
- Spread half of the mascarpone mixture over the ladyfingers, smoothing the top with a spatula.
- Repeat the process with another layer of dipped ladyfingers and the remaining mascarpone mixture.
- Cover and refrigerate the tiramisu for at least 4 hours, or overnight, to allow the flavors to meld.
- Before serving, dust the top of the tiramisu generously with cocoa powder and garnish with chocolate curls, if desired.
- Serve chilled and enjoy!
Notes
- If you prefer a non-alcoholic version, you can skip the coffee liqueur and just use the brewed coffee.
- For a stronger coffee flavor, increase the amount of coffee used or add a bit more coffee liqueur.
- This dessert can be made ahead of time and kept in the refrigerator for up to 2 days.
- Ensure the mascarpone cheese is at room temperature for smoother incorporation into the mixture.
