Description

Korean BBQ Meatballs are juicy, flavorful meatballs coated in a sweet and savory Korean-style sauce made with soy, garlic, ginger, and a hint of spice.

Ingredients

  • 500 g ground beef
  • 1/2 cup breadcrumbs
  • 1 egg
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 teaspoon fresh ginger, grated
  • 2 green onions, finely chopped
  • 2 tablespoons soy sauce
  • 1 tablespoon sesame oil
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 tablespoon vegetable oil (for cooking)
  • 1/4 cup soy sauce (for sauce)
  • 2 tablespoons brown sugar
  • 2 tablespoons honey
  • 1 tablespoon gochujang (Korean chili paste)
  • 1 tablespoon rice vinegar
  • 1 teaspoon cornstarch mixed with 2 tablespoons water
  • Sesame seeds for garnish

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 200°C (400°F) or prepare a skillet.
  2. In a bowl, combine ground beef, breadcrumbs, egg, garlic, ginger, green onions, soy sauce, sesame oil, and black pepper.
  3. Mix until just combined, then form into small meatballs.
  4. Bake for 15–18 minutes or pan-fry until browned and cooked through.
  5. In a saucepan, combine soy sauce, brown sugar, honey, gochujang, and rice vinegar. Bring to a simmer.
  6. Add cornstarch slurry and cook until sauce thickens.
  7. Toss cooked meatballs in the sauce until well coated.
  8. Garnish with sesame seeds and extra green onions before serving.

Notes

  • Adjust spice by increasing or reducing gochujang.
  • You can use ground chicken or turkey as an alternative.
  • Serve with steamed rice or noodles.
  • Make ahead and reheat in sauce for best flavor.
