Description

Maple-Bourbon Glazed Short Ribs are tender, slow-braised beef ribs coated in a rich glaze made with maple syrup, bourbon, garlic, and savory spices for a deep, caramelized flavor.

Ingredients

  • 1.5 kg beef short ribs
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1/2 tsp black pepper
  • 2 tbsp olive oil
  • 1 small onion, chopped
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1/2 cup bourbon
  • 1/3 cup pure maple syrup
  • 1 cup beef broth
  • 2 tbsp soy sauce
  • 1 tbsp Dijon mustard
  • 1 tsp fresh thyme (or 1/2 tsp dried)

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 160°C (325°F).
  2. Season short ribs with salt and black pepper.
  3. Heat olive oil in a Dutch oven over medium-high heat and sear ribs on all sides until browned. Remove and set aside.
  4. In the same pot, sauté onion until softened, then add garlic.
  5. Carefully pour in bourbon and simmer 2–3 minutes to reduce slightly.
  6. Stir in maple syrup, beef broth, soy sauce, Dijon mustard, and thyme.
  7. Return short ribs to the pot, ensuring they are mostly submerged.
  8. Cover and braise in oven for 2 1/2–3 hours until ribs are fork-tender.
  9. Remove ribs and simmer sauce on stovetop until thickened into a glaze.
  10. Brush glaze over ribs and serve warm.

Notes

  • Allow bourbon to cook off before covering.
  • Skim excess fat from sauce before reducing.
  • Serve with mashed potatoes or roasted vegetables.
