Description

Onion-Wrapped Flying Dutchman is a low-carb burger made with two juicy beef patties and melted cheese, wrapped in thick caramelized onion slices instead of a bun for a savory and satisfying meal.

Ingredients

  • 1 lb ground beef (80/20 blend)
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 4 slices American cheese
  • 2 large white onions, cut into thick rounds
  • 1 tablespoon butter or oil (for cooking)

Instructions

  1. Form ground beef into 4 thin patties and season both sides with salt and pepper.
  2. Separate onion slices into large intact rings.
  3. Heat butter or oil in a skillet over medium heat.
  4. Cook onion rings for 3–4 minutes per side until softened and lightly caramelized. Remove and set aside.
  5. In the same skillet, cook beef patties for 3–4 minutes per side until desired doneness.
  6. Place a slice of cheese on each patty during the last minute of cooking to melt.
  7. Assemble by stacking two patties with cheese together and sandwiching them between two large onion slices.
  8. Serve immediately while warm.

Notes

  • Use thick-cut onions to prevent breaking when wrapping.
  • Cook onions slowly for extra sweetness.
  • Add mustard or pickle slices if desired.
  • Best enjoyed fresh and hot.
