Description
Onion-Wrapped Flying Dutchman is a low-carb burger made with two juicy beef patties and melted cheese, wrapped in thick caramelized onion slices instead of a bun for a savory and satisfying meal.
Ingredients
- 1 lb ground beef (80/20 blend)
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
- 4 slices American cheese
- 2 large white onions, cut into thick rounds
- 1 tablespoon butter or oil (for cooking)
Instructions
- Form ground beef into 4 thin patties and season both sides with salt and pepper.
- Separate onion slices into large intact rings.
- Heat butter or oil in a skillet over medium heat.
- Cook onion rings for 3–4 minutes per side until softened and lightly caramelized. Remove and set aside.
- In the same skillet, cook beef patties for 3–4 minutes per side until desired doneness.
- Place a slice of cheese on each patty during the last minute of cooking to melt.
- Assemble by stacking two patties with cheese together and sandwiching them between two large onion slices.
- Serve immediately while warm.
Notes
- Use thick-cut onions to prevent breaking when wrapping.
- Cook onions slowly for extra sweetness.
- Add mustard or pickle slices if desired.
- Best enjoyed fresh and hot.
