Description

A classic Philly cheesesteak sandwich made with thinly sliced beef, sautéed onions, melted cheese, and served in a toasted hoagie roll.

Ingredients

  • 400g ribeye steak, thinly sliced
  • 2 hoagie rolls
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1 tablespoon butter
  • 1 medium onion, sliced
  • 1/2 green bell pepper, sliced (optional)
  • 4 slices provolone cheese or 1/2 cup Cheez Whiz
  • Salt to taste
  • Black pepper to taste

Instructions

  1. Freeze the steak for 20–30 minutes to make slicing easier, then slice very thinly.
  2. Heat olive oil in a skillet over medium heat.
  3. Add onions (and bell peppers if using) and sauté until soft and caramelized. Remove and set aside.
  4. In the same pan, melt butter and add sliced beef. Season with salt and pepper.
  5. Cook beef quickly, stirring until browned.
  6. Return onions to the pan and mix with the beef.
  7. Place cheese on top and let it melt.
  8. Slice hoagie rolls and lightly toast them.
  9. Fill rolls with the beef and cheese mixture.
  10. Serve hot and enjoy.

Notes

  • Ribeye is traditional, but sirloin can be used.
  • Cheez Whiz gives an authentic street-style flavor.
  • Add mushrooms for extra taste.
