Philly Cheesesteak-Style Meatloaf is a savory twist on classic meatloaf, combining seasoned ground beef with sautéed onions, bell peppers, and melted provolone cheese for a comforting, cheesesteak-inspired dinner.
Ingredients
- 1 1/2 lb ground beef
- 1 cup breadcrumbs
- 2 large eggs
- 1/2 cup milk
- 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
- 1 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1 tablespoon olive oil
- 1 medium onion, thinly sliced
- 1 green bell pepper, thinly sliced
- 8 oz mushrooms, sliced
- 6 slices provolone cheese
- 2 tablespoons ketchup (optional)
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C). Lightly grease a loaf pan.
- Heat olive oil in a skillet over medium heat. Sauté onion, bell pepper, and mushrooms until softened; set aside to cool.
- In a large bowl, mix ground beef, breadcrumbs, eggs, milk, Worcestershire sauce, salt, pepper, and garlic powder until just combined.
- Gently fold in the sautéed vegetables.
- Press half of the meat mixture into the loaf pan.
- Layer provolone cheese slices evenly over the meat.
- Top with remaining meat mixture and gently press to seal.
- Spread ketchup on top if using.
- Bake for 55–60 minutes, or until internal temperature reaches 160°F (71°C).
- Rest for 10 minutes before slicing and serving.
Notes
- Use ground beef with 80/20 fat ratio for best flavor and moisture.
- Provolone can be substituted with mozzarella or white American cheese.
- Serve with mashed potatoes or a side salad.
