Description

Philly Cheesesteak-Style Meatloaf is a savory twist on classic meatloaf, combining seasoned ground beef with sautéed onions, bell peppers, and melted provolone cheese for a comforting, cheesesteak-inspired dinner.

Ingredients

  • 1 1/2 lb ground beef
  • 1 cup breadcrumbs
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1 medium onion, thinly sliced
  • 1 green bell pepper, thinly sliced
  • 8 oz mushrooms, sliced
  • 6 slices provolone cheese
  • 2 tablespoons ketchup (optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C). Lightly grease a loaf pan.
  2. Heat olive oil in a skillet over medium heat. Sauté onion, bell pepper, and mushrooms until softened; set aside to cool.
  3. In a large bowl, mix ground beef, breadcrumbs, eggs, milk, Worcestershire sauce, salt, pepper, and garlic powder until just combined.
  4. Gently fold in the sautéed vegetables.
  5. Press half of the meat mixture into the loaf pan.
  6. Layer provolone cheese slices evenly over the meat.
  7. Top with remaining meat mixture and gently press to seal.
  8. Spread ketchup on top if using.
  9. Bake for 55–60 minutes, or until internal temperature reaches 160°F (71°C).
  10. Rest for 10 minutes before slicing and serving.

Notes

  • Use ground beef with 80/20 fat ratio for best flavor and moisture.
  • Provolone can be substituted with mozzarella or white American cheese.
  • Serve with mashed potatoes or a side salad.
