Description
Soft and fluffy red velvet cinnamon rolls with a rich cocoa-cinnamon filling and luscious cream cheese frosting, perfect for a romantic Valentine’s Day breakfast or dessert.
Ingredients
- 3 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1/4 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
- 1/4 cup granulated sugar
- 1 packet (2 1/4 tsp) active dry yeast
- 1/2 tsp salt
- 1 cup warm milk
- 1/4 cup unsalted butter, melted
- 1 large egg
- 1 tbsp red food coloring
- 1/2 cup brown sugar (for filling)
- 1 1/2 tsp ground cinnamon
- 3 tbsp unsalted butter, softened (for filling)
- 8 oz (225 g) cream cheese, softened (for frosting)
- 1 1/2 cups powdered sugar (for frosting)
- 1 tsp vanilla extract (for frosting)
- 2 tbsp milk (for frosting)
Instructions
- In a large bowl, combine flour, cocoa powder, sugar, yeast, and salt.
- Add warm milk, melted butter, egg, and red food coloring. Mix until a soft dough forms.
- Knead the dough for 6–8 minutes until smooth and elastic.
- Place dough in a greased bowl, cover, and let rise for 1–1 1/2 hours until doubled in size.
- Roll dough into a 12×16-inch rectangle on a floured surface.
- Spread softened butter over the surface.
- Mix brown sugar and cinnamon, then sprinkle evenly over the buttered dough.
- Roll tightly from the long side and slice into 12 rolls.
- Place rolls in a greased baking dish, cover, and let rise for 30–45 minutes.
- Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C) and bake for 20–25 minutes until set.
- Beat cream cheese, powdered sugar, vanilla, and milk until smooth.
- Spread frosting over warm rolls before serving.
Notes
- Use gel food coloring for a more vibrant red color.
- Do not overbake to keep rolls soft and tender.
- Store leftovers in the refrigerator due to the cream cheese frosting.
