Description

Smothered Chicken Thighs with Gravy is a comforting homestyle dish featuring juicy pan-seared chicken thighs cooked in a rich onion gravy until tender and flavorful.


Ingredients

  • 6 bone-in or boneless chicken thighs, skin-on or skinless
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1/2 tsp black pepper
  • 1 tsp paprika
  • 1 tsp garlic powder
  • 2 tbsp all-purpose flour
  • 2 tbsp vegetable oil
  • 1 medium onion, thinly sliced
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 360 ml chicken broth
  • 1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 tsp dried thyme


Instructions

  1. Season chicken thighs with salt, black pepper, paprika, and garlic powder.
  2. Lightly dredge the chicken in flour, shaking off excess.
  3. Heat vegetable oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat.
  4. Sear chicken thighs for 4–5 minutes per side until golden brown. Remove and set aside.
  5. In the same skillet, add sliced onions and cook until softened and lightly browned.
  6. Add minced garlic and cook for 30 seconds until fragrant.
  7. Pour in chicken broth and Worcestershire sauce, scraping up browned bits from the pan.
  8. Stir in dried thyme and bring to a simmer.
  9. Return chicken to the skillet, cover, and reduce heat to low.
  10. Simmer for 30–35 minutes until chicken is tender and gravy has thickened.
  11. Taste and adjust seasoning if needed, then serve hot.

Notes

  • Serve with mashed potatoes, rice, or biscuits.
  • Boneless thighs cook slightly faster than bone-in.
