Description
Flaky heart-shaped puff pastry danishes filled with sweetened cream cheese and strawberry topping, perfect for breakfast, brunch, or a romantic dessert.
Ingredients
- 1 package puff pastry sheets, thawed
- 200 g cream cheese, softened
- 1/3 cup powdered sugar
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
- 1/2 cup strawberry jam or strawberry pie filling
- 1 egg (for egg wash)
- 1 tbsp milk
- Fresh strawberries, sliced (optional, for topping)
- 1 tbsp granulated sugar (optional, for sprinkling)
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 200°C (400°F) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
- Roll out the puff pastry and cut into heart shapes.
- Using a knife, lightly score a smaller heart inside each pastry, leaving a border.
- In a bowl, mix cream cheese, powdered sugar, and vanilla extract until smooth.
- Spoon cream cheese mixture into the center of each heart.
- Add a spoonful of strawberry jam or filling on top of the cream cheese.
- Whisk egg with milk and brush the pastry edges with egg wash.
- Sprinkle edges lightly with granulated sugar if desired.
- Bake for 15–18 minutes until golden and puffed.
- Cool slightly and garnish with fresh strawberries before serving.
Notes
- Do not overfill to prevent leaking.
- Serve warm or at room temperature.
- Can be made ahead and reheated briefly in the oven.
