Description

Juicy Chinese-style chicken on a stick, marinated in a sweet and savory sauce, then grilled or baked to caramelized perfection—perfect as a street-food style snack or appetizer.

Ingredients

  • 500g chicken thighs or breasts, cut into strips
  • 2 tablespoons soy sauce
  • 2 tablespoons hoisin sauce
  • 1 tablespoon oyster sauce
  • 2 tablespoons honey
  • 1 tablespoon brown sugar
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 teaspoon fresh ginger, grated
  • 1 tablespoon sesame oil
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • Wooden skewers (soaked in water)
  • Sesame seeds (optional)
  • Green onions, chopped (for garnish)

Instructions

  1. In a bowl, mix soy sauce, hoisin sauce, oyster sauce, honey, brown sugar, garlic, ginger, sesame oil, and black pepper.
  2. Add chicken strips and marinate for at least 30 minutes (or up to 4 hours for more flavor).
  3. Thread marinated chicken onto soaked skewers.
  4. Preheat grill or oven to 200°C (400°F).
  5. Grill or bake skewers for 15-20 minutes, turning halfway through and brushing with extra marinade.
  6. Cook until chicken is fully cooked and slightly caramelized.
  7. Garnish with sesame seeds and chopped green onions before serving.

Notes

  • Soak wooden skewers to prevent burning.
  • Use chicken thighs for juicier results.
  • Adjust sweetness or saltiness to taste.
  • Broil for a few minutes for extra char.
  • Serve with rice or as a snack.
