Instructions
- Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and line two 8-inch round cake pans.
- Whisk together flour, cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda, salt, and sugar.
- Add eggs, buttermilk, oil, and vanilla extract. Mix until smooth.
- Slowly stir in hot coffee until fully incorporated.
- Divide batter evenly between prepared pans.
- Bake for 28-32 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
- Cool cakes completely.
- For the filling, combine strawberries and sugar in a saucepan over medium heat.
- Mix cornstarch with water and stir into the strawberries.
- Cook until thickened, then cool completely.
- Whip heavy cream, powdered sugar, and vanilla extract until stiff peaks form.
- Place one cake layer on a serving plate and spread a layer of whipped cream.
- Spread half of the strawberry filling over the cream.
- Top with the second cake layer.
- Frost the top and sides with the remaining whipped cream.
- Decorate with remaining strawberry filling, chocolate shavings, and whole strawberries.
- Chill for 30 minutes before slicing and serving.
