Description

Shrimp Oreganata is an Italian-American seafood dish featuring shrimp baked with a garlicky breadcrumb topping, olive oil, lemon, and oregano until golden and flavorful.

Ingredients

  • 1 lb (450 g) large shrimp, peeled and deveined
  • 1 cup Italian-style breadcrumbs
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1/4 cup olive oil
  • 2 tbsp fresh parsley, chopped
  • 1 tbsp fresh lemon juice
  • 1 tsp dried oregano
  • 1/4 tsp red pepper flakes (optional)
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1/4 tsp black pepper
  • 2 tbsp grated Parmesan cheese
  • Lemon wedges for serving

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 200°C (400°F) and lightly grease a baking dish.
  2. Arrange the shrimp in a single layer in the prepared baking dish.
  3. In a bowl mix the breadcrumbs, minced garlic, parsley, oregano, salt, black pepper, and red pepper flakes.
  4. Stir in the olive oil, lemon juice, and grated Parmesan until the mixture resembles moist crumbs.
  5. Spoon the breadcrumb mixture evenly over the shrimp.
  6. Bake for 10–12 minutes until the shrimp are pink and the topping is golden.
  7. For extra browning, broil for 1–2 minutes at the end if desired.
  8. Serve hot with lemon wedges and crusty bread.

Notes

  • Do not overcook the shrimp or they may become rubbery.
  • Fresh shrimp provide the best flavor, but thawed frozen shrimp work well.
  • Serve over pasta or alongside a fresh salad for a complete meal.
  • You can substitute panko breadcrumbs for extra crunch.
