Description

Classic homestyle Salisbury steak made with juicy seasoned beef patties simmered in a rich onion gravy—comforting, hearty, and perfect with mashed potatoes or vegetables.

Ingredients

  • 500g ground beef
  • 1/3 cup breadcrumbs
  • 1 egg
  • 1 small onion, finely chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 teaspoon Dijon mustard
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 2 tablespoons butter
  • 1 large onion, sliced
  • 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
  • 2 cups beef broth
  • 1 teaspoon soy sauce
  • 1 tablespoon chopped parsley

Instructions

  1. In a bowl, combine ground beef, breadcrumbs, egg, chopped onion, garlic, Worcestershire sauce, Dijon mustard, salt, and black pepper.
  2. Mix gently and form into oval patties.
  3. Heat olive oil in a skillet over medium-high heat.
  4. Cook patties for 4-5 minutes per side until browned. Remove and set aside.
  5. In the same skillet, melt butter and cook sliced onions until soft and caramelized.
  6. Sprinkle flour over the onions and stir for 1 minute.
  7. Gradually whisk in beef broth and soy sauce until smooth.
  8. Bring gravy to a simmer until slightly thickened.
  9. Return patties to the skillet and spoon gravy over them.
  10. Cover and simmer for 10-15 minutes until patties are fully cooked.
  11. Garnish with parsley before serving.

Notes

  • Do not overmix the beef mixture to keep patties tender.
  • Serve with mashed potatoes, rice, or buttered noodles.
  • Add mushrooms to the gravy for extra flavor.
  • Use low-sodium broth if preferred.
  • Store leftovers refrigerated for up to 3 days.
