Classic homestyle Salisbury steak made with juicy seasoned beef patties simmered in a rich onion gravy—comforting, hearty, and perfect with mashed potatoes or vegetables.
Ingredients
- 500g ground beef
- 1/3 cup breadcrumbs
- 1 egg
- 1 small onion, finely chopped
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
- 1 teaspoon Dijon mustard
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
- 2 tablespoons olive oil
- 2 tablespoons butter
- 1 large onion, sliced
- 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
- 2 cups beef broth
- 1 teaspoon soy sauce
- 1 tablespoon chopped parsley
Instructions
- In a bowl, combine ground beef, breadcrumbs, egg, chopped onion, garlic, Worcestershire sauce, Dijon mustard, salt, and black pepper.
- Mix gently and form into oval patties.
- Heat olive oil in a skillet over medium-high heat.
- Cook patties for 4-5 minutes per side until browned. Remove and set aside.
- In the same skillet, melt butter and cook sliced onions until soft and caramelized.
- Sprinkle flour over the onions and stir for 1 minute.
- Gradually whisk in beef broth and soy sauce until smooth.
- Bring gravy to a simmer until slightly thickened.
- Return patties to the skillet and spoon gravy over them.
- Cover and simmer for 10-15 minutes until patties are fully cooked.
- Garnish with parsley before serving.
Notes
- Do not overmix the beef mixture to keep patties tender.
- Serve with mashed potatoes, rice, or buttered noodles.
- Add mushrooms to the gravy for extra flavor.
- Use low-sodium broth if preferred.
- Store leftovers refrigerated for up to 3 days.
