Description

A hearty and comforting meatloaf made with seasoned ground meat and topped with melted Swiss cheese for a rich, savory finish that pairs perfectly with mashed potatoes or roasted vegetables.

Ingredients

  • 1 1/2 lbs ground beef
  • 1/2 cup breadcrumbs
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 1 small onion, finely diced
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 large egg
  • 2 tbsp ketchup
  • 1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1/2 tsp black pepper
  • 1 tsp dried parsley
  • 6 slices Swiss cheese
  • 2 tbsp chopped fresh parsley for garnish (optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C) and lightly grease a loaf pan or line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. In a large bowl, combine breadcrumbs and milk and let sit for 2 minutes to soften.
  3. Add ground beef, diced onion, garlic, egg, ketchup, Worcestershire sauce, salt, pepper, and dried parsley.
  4. Mix gently until all ingredients are evenly combined.
  5. Shape the mixture into a loaf and place it in the prepared pan or on the baking sheet.
  6. Bake for 35 minutes.
  7. Remove from the oven and place Swiss cheese slices evenly over the top.
  8. Return to the oven and bake for another 10–15 minutes until the cheese is melted and the meatloaf is fully cooked (internal temperature 160°F / 71°C).
  9. Let the meatloaf rest for 5–10 minutes before slicing.
  10. Garnish with chopped parsley and serve warm.

Notes

  • For extra flavor, sauté the onions before adding them to the mixture.
  • You can mix ground beef with ground turkey or chicken for a lighter version.
  • Letting the meatloaf rest helps keep it juicy when slicing.
  • Serve with mashed potatoes, green beans, or roasted vegetables.
