Description
A hearty and comforting meatloaf made with seasoned ground meat and topped with melted Swiss cheese for a rich, savory finish that pairs perfectly with mashed potatoes or roasted vegetables.
Ingredients
- 1 1/2 lbs ground beef
- 1/2 cup breadcrumbs
- 1/2 cup milk
- 1 small onion, finely diced
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 large egg
- 2 tbsp ketchup
- 1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
- 1 tsp salt
- 1/2 tsp black pepper
- 1 tsp dried parsley
- 6 slices Swiss cheese
- 2 tbsp chopped fresh parsley for garnish (optional)
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C) and lightly grease a loaf pan or line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
- In a large bowl, combine breadcrumbs and milk and let sit for 2 minutes to soften.
- Add ground beef, diced onion, garlic, egg, ketchup, Worcestershire sauce, salt, pepper, and dried parsley.
- Mix gently until all ingredients are evenly combined.
- Shape the mixture into a loaf and place it in the prepared pan or on the baking sheet.
- Bake for 35 minutes.
- Remove from the oven and place Swiss cheese slices evenly over the top.
- Return to the oven and bake for another 10–15 minutes until the cheese is melted and the meatloaf is fully cooked (internal temperature 160°F / 71°C).
- Let the meatloaf rest for 5–10 minutes before slicing.
- Garnish with chopped parsley and serve warm.
Notes
- For extra flavor, sauté the onions before adding them to the mixture.
- You can mix ground beef with ground turkey or chicken for a lighter version.
- Letting the meatloaf rest helps keep it juicy when slicing.
- Serve with mashed potatoes, green beans, or roasted vegetables.
