Description
Soft pillowy gnocchi tossed in a rich tomato basil sauce and finished with freshly grated Parmesan for a comforting Italian-inspired dish.
Ingredients
- 1 lb potato gnocchi
- 2 tablespoons olive oil
- 3 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 can (14 oz) crushed tomatoes
- 2 tablespoons tomato paste
- 1 teaspoon dried oregano
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
- 1/2 teaspoon sugar (optional)
- 1/4 cup fresh basil leaves, chopped
- 1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese
- 1/4 teaspoon red chili flakes (optional)
Instructions
- Bring a pot of salted water to a boil and cook gnocchi according to package instructions. Drain and set aside.
- Heat olive oil in a skillet over medium heat.
- Add garlic and sauté until fragrant, about 1 minute.
- Stir in crushed tomatoes and tomato paste.
- Add oregano, salt, pepper, sugar, and chili flakes. Simmer for 10–15 minutes.
- Add cooked gnocchi to the sauce and toss gently to coat.
- Stir in fresh basil and cook for 1–2 minutes.
- Remove from heat and sprinkle Parmesan cheese on top.
- Serve warm with extra basil and Parmesan if desired.

- Use fresh gnocchi for best texture.
- Add cream for a richer sauce.
- Do not overcook gnocchi to avoid mushiness.
- Fresh basil enhances flavor significantly.
